Mustafa Boğa’s new exhibition, This Might Be The Last Thing You Are Looking At, approaches the notion of the “end”—something we have all inevitably contemplated at some point in our lives—by moving it away from its dark and melancholic associations and placing it alongside the possibility of a new beginning.

The works in the exhibition first draw the viewer in through Boğa’s compelling visual language. Moving beyond the concerns of popular culture, this language offers clues to a more inward and personal inquiry into life, one that nevertheless feels deeply familiar to us all. By bringing together the symbols embedded within each work, the artist presents the viewer with a puzzle waiting to be deciphered. As viewers begin to unravel this familiar yet deeply personal puzzle, they find themselves recalling not only fragments of the artist’s past, but also moments from their own lives.

The works’ initial impressions are deliberately misleading; yet, as the viewer becomes immersed in their forms and layers, traces of a life lived against the current gradually begin to emerge. The closer the viewer comes to the artist, the more they begin to untangle, with their own hands, the knots he has left within his works.
