IRMAK DÖNMEZ

Artist in Residence at Cerámica Suro, Mexico
We are delighted to share that Irmak Dönmez, one of the talented artists from Martch Art Project, is currently participating in the Artist in Residence program at Cerámica Suro in Guadalajara, Mexico. Cerámica Suro is a historic and active ceramics factory founded in 1951, renowned for its production of tiles, tableware, and decorative objects, and celebrated internationally as a place where artists expand their practice in large-scale ceramic production and professional craft techniques.
Irmak Dönmez (b. 1987, Istanbul) is an acclaimed multidisciplinary artist whose practice bridges theory and material experimentation. She holds a BA in Visual Arts and an MFA in Painting from Işık University, Istanbul, and has undertaken doctoral research in Art Theory. Her work critically engages with themes such as bio-politics, gender politics, and the social meanings attributed to the body, exploring complex narratives through sculpture, installation, ceramics, and mixed media. Irmak has exhibited internationally and her work has been included in major exhibitions such as Mother at Kunsthalle Mannheim, where her sculpture Oedipus’s Birthday Cake entered the museum’s permanent collection — a testament to her innovative artistic voice and conceptual depth.
During her residency at Cerámica Suro, Irmak is further developing her exploration of ceramics as both material and metaphor — deepening her dialogue with clay and its rich cultural histories, while engaging with new techniques and creative networks in a vibrant artistic context.
